FYI: T3 Transitioning Away from Cultivation/Package Tools

T3's cultivation and package tools were some of the earliest features introduced to the platform. Tens of thousands of times every week, T3 users send Metrc compliance reports using them.

Increasingly, these tools are the source of a lot of bugs, and it's preventing me from making progress on other parts of the platform like label generation and OpenTag. As a result, I am going to begin a long-term phaseout of these in favor of Metrc form autofill (similar in style to the existing Transfer Tools).

    Why is this happening?

T3 is only useful as long as it's not broken or causing issues for users. Additionally, T3 CSV Autofill has a tremendous amount of overlap with these tools, and it doesn't make sense to maintain two tools that effectively do the same thing. Under the hood, the new tooling will use large portions of CSV autofill.

This also means that T3 will be fully compatible with Metrc in all states across the board. Currently, certain areas like plant batches are limited in T3 because they work very differently in California compared to other states.

What does this mean for you?

I'm going to start moving the time-saving portions of these tools (automatic plant/package/plantbatch selection, automatic calculation of totals, etc) into inline form tools. Based on the usage of these tools, users will still be saving the same amount of time, it'll just be in a different interface.

    What is going away?

All tools listed under "Cultivation Tools" and "Package Tools" will gradually be phased out.

Instead of the T3 batch submit, the submit process will now be done using the native Metrc forms. A small minority of users who are submitting gigantic amounts of data at once may find this to be problematic, and I'm happy to work with them to find a solution.

    What is being added?

At the top of each relevant Metrc form (corresponding to the current T3 tool), there will be a new section for quickly filling out forms.

Importantly, once a form is filled, you'll be able to see everything that is being submitted to Metrc, allowing you to catch errors.

I think this is a much better approach! The tools that integrate directly into METRC and the forms seem to be the best way to go so it is more like an augmented experience, instead of a separate set of tools.
